Ancient Greek Theaters, Seen from the SkySome cool photos here
Very neat. I hadn't seen some of those theaters (the remote ones) and now I would be interested in visiting. The backdrops of some of them, such as at Delos, are amazing.
One of these days I will get to mainland Greece. I am kind of worried that I will be disappointing though. I have been to Rome a few times and while it is always fascinating, it is kind of disappointment at the same time because of the crowds. The best part of Rome was the Imperial Palace on the Capitoline because there was almost nobody up there, I guess most people are too cheap to pay the extra fee. The forum is cool though, especially standing on the steps of the Curia.
Would you mean that your Roman experience was a kind of “Paris syndrome” (aka Voyager syndrome) ? 20 years ago I had the same kind of feeling in Canada, there was a Native American museum that "had" to be visited but once inside, it was all about souvenirs ... to buy ! After such an experience, I didn't even try to look for other places like that so-called museum.
Excellent pictures, nevertheless. I guess traveling is like surfing the Net. You have to overlook all the advertisements and watch out for spammers, but there?s a lot of neat stuff to find. I have to see Greece. My wife got to go on a business trip and she loved it.
The Romans did a pretty good job of keeping hawkers out of the historic sites but they were certainly everywhere else. that is true of just about any tourist destination though. Paris and Berlin are the same. I just didnt like the crowds, especially the screaming kids. Thinking about it, I guess the Forum was a pretty loud and busy place in antiquity too.
I would figure they would have put it right next to the foot path leading up. That looks like it is a several block walk to the path to the top.
I read they built this over an active archaeological dig site and you can watch it inside the museum.
