Check out this article about Sarkozy claiming that attacks on Christians are “Cleansing.” Once you read thr article check out the comments. Whether I agree with Sarkozy's statement or not is irrelevant. The comments on the story are hilarious and demonstrate a level of ignorance on both sides of this debate, if indeed it could be called a debate at all. I also found it curious that almost all of the comments originate in the US instead of middle east lands.
I generally find that comments in news stories are well worth reading for the belly laughs I get out of them. It is amazing how many people spout of their ignorance in public forums with the virtual guarantee of anonymity.
I have found comments in general to be more and more unsettling. It was nice in the months leading up to the Fall elections to hear that so many others out there shared some of the same feelings that I had about our government, but aside from that stories are so often filled with comments that I cannot argue with. That is, there is no point to debating them. There is no desire to learn from what an opponent is saying, but simply a desire to spout out talking points. Accusations run amuck. But I suppose they are good for a laugh every now and then.
A laugh is abut all they are good for. I am increasingly convinced that most people that spout off on comments sections cannot be debated with and the very act of them venting on comments sections just solidifies their opinions and makes it less likely that they could be swayed in their opinions. I also think it is true that with the internet people increasingly only read news stories that slant their way versus getting stories from all angles.
Case in point about all of this: check out the comments on Yahoo stories about the assassination attempt on the AZ congresswoman. Bad enough is the fact that the media is trying to scrape the barrel to link the act to the Tea Party and/or Sarah Palin. I find that disgusting in itself, but fortunately the media has to confine its comments to mere speculation because there is little known about the perpetrator. Nevertheless, in comments, leftist make their unfounded accusations known quite explicitly, smearing the Tea Party and conservatives. Some examples from the first page I came across: “Steve, you are ignoring the obvious, it took teabag ideas and hatred to set this guy off.””Inflammatory hate speech by O'Reilly, Hannity, Palin KILLS. It is as simply as that. The question is whether we stand idle and let tragedies like this occur again and again, or do we do something about it?”http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20110109/ap_on_re_us/us_congresswoman_shotFortunately, the facts get in the way of this kind of smear. I have read that the gunman was a pot smoker and was against religion, and I just came across this, which comes from a tweet from one of his old friends:5:36 As I knew him he was left wing, quite liberal. & oddly obsessed with the 2012 prophecy.My question: will the left-wing ideology of the gunman be investigated, and will it be proclaimed from the hilltops like the supposed Tea Party connection was?
The Left are nothing but a bunch of hypocrites. They incite hatred and do violence far more than the Right.Daily Kos had this posted two days before the shooting.
