Apparently 6 year old girls accompanied by their Dr. Father and Mother are considered security threats. TSA in New Orleans subjects 6 year-old girl to enhanced pat-down. I don't even know what to say. It is obvious that TSA drones are not allowed to exercise common sense when they conduct security procedures. I bet there is some rule that they have to stick to the letter of security policy to avoid charges of profiling or something like that.
One of my friends posted this on Facebook… crazy… I think you are spot on though about the TSA guys worried they will get called to the carpet for not following the rules to the letter…
It is ridiculous, but I'm guessing it's par for the course for the time being. Political correctness demands they treat everyone “equally”, even to a point nearing absurdity. Now, if there were an attack on American soil, we'd see a quick decrease in political correctness and an increase in pragmatic practices in airports. People would be searched based upon their profile and behavior. Then, gradually over time, there would be a reversion away from the practical and a return to political correctness.I think this underscores how the right and left operate in America. People on the right tend to think pragmatically about issues and about what works in the real world; feelings are relegated to a secondary tier. People on the left tend to think idealistically about issues and how things should work apart from the real-world considerations; feelings are given primary consideration. With the airport example, "random" checks are put in place more or less so that certain people don't get their feelings hurt. This sets aside the reality that people committing terrorist acts aren't from "random" groups within society.
The July following 9/11 a security type stopped and wanded at infamous Logan airport, then in grunts I could barely understand he pointed at a chair for me to sit and take off my shoes. While I was putting them back on, another “security guard” yelled at him, “Hey, Mohammed, come here.”
The stupidity of the whole TSA process just irritates me. It is a perfect example of keeping up appearnces in my opinion. The PC crowd has actually hurt security by forcing the TSA to engage in these types of practices. I cannot even really blame the security guy at the checkpoint, they have to do what they have to do or get fired. I blame the administrators and planners that allow political and PC considerations to get in the way of effective security.
