I don't know why I bother even talking to libs anymore. They are not amenable to reasoned discussion and any debate with them rapidly degrades into name-calling. i think I am just going to follow Frank J from IMAO's advice and start punching those hippies in the face. Not only will it relieve my anger it may even make some of them shut up. I wouldnt mind adminsitering multiple face-punches to some, they are so annoying.
I seriously think it's their lack of faith in God or their warped, hatred-filled view of Christianity because it seems everything stems from that when it comes to the Leftist mindset.Either that or they are just idiots who are driven more by ideology than reality and have no conscience or shame when it comes to lying.
I am starting to think that they are just full of self-loathing. I do not understand how someone can hate the society that provides them with so much opportunity and freedom. Lack of faith has a lot do with it to but I don't think atheism explains it all.
Not necessarily atheism, but it's their interpretation of Christianity. The “Jesus preached tolerance” thing they always say is completely wrong. That's how they justify gay marriage, abortion, and other ills of society. I also think their minds are wired differently, but that would be hard to prove. My best guess is their thinking is the combination of Liberal/Marxist/Socialist/Progressive education, group think, mob mentality, and peer pressure.
I was at a 4th of July party with a public school teacher and unionized state worker. Both are convinced Obama will win by a landslide, both have fully fallen hook line and sinker with the MSM narrative, and both seemed completely oblivious to the economic situation (caused largely by union pensions and over spending in education) and rightward swing of this country. I only spoke with them when they weren't talking politics.
This originally came up when I was talking to some of my German friends about taxes and the fact that they are going to raise German income taxes and institute a toll for the autobahns. I kept asking them what they got in return for their confiscatory level of taxes and none could tell but they insisted it was worth it. I felt like pounding my head against a wall after awhile.
I would quit trying to be “friends” with these people and just move on. You can be a Christian friend instead (that would be loving them Christ). Otherwise the strain is too much and no real friendship is actually there since both of you will despise what the other is about.
Yes to leftists, but no to liberals. Leftists are only wrong about society, politics, the economy, capitalism, history, the environment, science, and religion. Some liberal foreign policy ideas I agree with, but have to admit some of it doesn't make sense. While they push capitalist ideals on poorer, at the same time the thwart capitalism in richer nations.
The difference between Leftism and Liberalism is that Leftism is evil. Liberals have good intentions, it's just that a majority of their ideas are bad or unrealistic.
I finally got around to reading this thread. I was tempted just by the subject line. 😀 How about taking a "one step forward, two steps back" approach when talking to liberals you just can't agree with (yes, I coined that term just now!). By this I mean when you're at your party talking to the Obama supporters, your task isn't necessarily to change their minds, but instead just plant doubt. So something like this:"I agree with you that Obama can really fire up his base with his speeches like few other politicians, and he will be able to do this in Fall 2012. However, I think that he won't have the "newness" factor because everyone's heard it all before, so he has that going against him. Also, he will have to spend much time defending his record and won't be able to talk about his plans for the future, like he was able to do in '08. So in the end, I don't think the situation will be as great for him in 2012 as it was the last time he ran."
