The father needs to be forced to fight someone his own size with real swords. Whatever happened to trial by combat anyway?
Interesting you make that comment. Not saying I necessarily disagree with you, but reading some of the comments on that article, I noticed that some people were saying that parents can't be parents anymore without the state stepping in.
I agree that the state steps into parenting too readily but in many cases, like this one, they need to. The problem is that the state interferes too much, thus making reasonable parents afraid that they can be jailed for disciplining their child in an unapproved manner, but at the same time, there are plenty of people that do not or can not make the distinction between discipline and abuse. A further problem is that the legally defined methods of disciplining children are a moving target anyway depending on the psychologically approved flavor of the week in child rearing.
