That description hits the nail on the head, Paul is just plain flaky. I cannot understand how his NWO stuff does not immediately put him out of the running for any race. Yet people sill think he is the second coming. I listen to him talk and he is completely reasonable one minute and the next he is off the deep end. I keep waiting for him to start talking about the Illuminati, Trilateral Commission, and Bilderberg trying to take over the world.I do like his kid though, the apple must have fallen a little farther from the tree than usual there.
Been waiting for your comment. 🙂The only problem I have with Paul is, as I've said earlier, his foreign policy. It's naive and dangerous. Just because a lot of his followers are nutcases doesn't mean Paul is. I used to think, because he had a lot of 9-11 "Truthers" liking him, that he was one himself, but I see no evidence of that. Some of you said his one idea doesn't make up for his 800 bad ideas. So outside of his foriegn policy, what are some of these 800 bad ideas of his? Personally, I think the guy is right on when it comes to fiscal matters.
I will start with his calls for a return to the Gold Standard and abolishing the Fed. Both are horrible ideas when you really start looking at it. Returning to the Gold Standard is probably impossible in any kind of reasonable time-frame. It would probably have to be phased in over a period of years just to avoid people making runs on banks and even more financial disruption. You cant unbreak that egg, as much as I dilike fiat currency, I do not see a workable method to return to the gold standard that will not seriously hurt those that it would be supposed to help. what makes you think financiers won't speculate in gold like they do in the markets now and gold would be stabe? The whole world would have to adopt it and that is not going to happen, it would force the Chinese to be honest for starters and that they will not do.As to the Fed, what are you going to replace it with? We cannot return to handing finance like we did 150 years ago, we need a central bank and the fed is it for good or bad. There are many more wacky things about him such as his foreign policy and his Ayn Randism.
End fiat currency. End banker cartels that are not responsible to American citizens. A return to the Constitution as it was originally written. Dismantle the Empire abroad. This is Ron Paul's message and it is the right one. We're broke and need to scale back.
The constitution talks about banking and currency? Not in my copy. I understand your frustrations with fiat currency and share them but on strict constitutional grounds he Federal government is well within it's right to issue such currency as there is no constitutional provision stating that currency must be backed by anything. Perhaps that could be the next amendment or we could ad it into the Balanced Budget Amendment that needs to be passed. What Empire abroad? I can't think of anywhere overseas where we exercise sovereignty outside of some islands in the Caribbean and Pacific. I don't see what a policy of isolationism would gain us. We are involved in the world whether we want to be or not. We should recognize that reality and act accordingly. I do not think we should be the worlds policeman but I also don' think we should retreat in Fortress America as Paul seems to advocate.
We're broke and need to scale back.
You will get no disagreement from me on this one, I would guess our differences are as to method not necessity.
