The Edison Museum recently discovered and digitized recordings from Bismarck and the Elder Moltke made in 1889. They are the only know recordings of these two men's voices. Two men who remade the map of Europe in the late 19th Century. Very interesting to listen too. The recordings are in the sidebar of this NYT Story.
That is pretty cool. I didn't even know there was such a thing as “sound historian”, but I guess they are very helpful when you have stuff like this come up.
Alas, I could not get enough volume to hear it clearly. Bismarck had some great acerbic comments I'd like to have heard:A Bavarian is a cross between an Austrian and a man.Regarding Italy's imperialist ambitions --- The Italians, such large appetites, such poor teeth.
The sound quality id definitely not high def. I downloaded the audio files to my PC and could here them a little better. Moltke's recording was much clearer than Bismarcks.
