How do modern historians date events before the Gregorian calendar was used? If something happened on say Oct 2, 1308, are historians going by the Julian calendar date? Will/should a historian inform you as to what dating method is used?
As far as i understand it they use Gregorian dating conventions. There was not just the Julian calendar used previously, the Russians used there own calendar until the commies took over as well. The Muslims continue to use both Gregorian and the Muslim dating conventions.
