You know if you run o'l williamstockdill's IP he shows up as a spammer and his address does not exist. I would tend to say he is a spammer but he at least made a relevant comment. Either he is not a spammer an is using a proxy or spammers are just getting more slick. I tend to think the latter but I have not banned him just yet, lets at least give him a chance to prove he is not a spammer.
He is a spammer. I already modified his profile, which contained links. You don't need to bother banning him, though; I doubt he'll be back. In cases like this, where they make semi-intelligent statements, I just clean out the links that they try to promote and let it be, so it would be possible to carry on the conversation and no one would know the difference.I must say, though, that he seems to be one of the new breed of "human spammers" who I guess work overseas, possibly in some sweat shop, signing onto forums and spreading links. One of the reasons I say this is because in order to register you have to know the temperature at which water freezes and enter that in.Also, for a spammer, he leaves a rather compelling nugget of wisdom in his little profile slogan. 🙂
They are getting slicker all the time aren't they? I have taken to moderating all the comments on my blog the first time someone posts in an attempt to keep the spammers away. Since I switched to Disqus as the comment platform the problem has almost disappeared though.
