Did anybody else but me realize that 142 years ago on 18 January, the German Empire was proclaimed in the Hall of Mirrors in the palace at Versailles, France after the conclusion of the Prussian Siege of Paris?Just wondering. 😉

Is that something they would have celebrated/felt happy with? I'm just asking because I am unsure of modern-day Germans' attitudes toward their past ambitions - even pre-Nazi era.
Probably not, but it is still history and should be remembered. I did notice that it was on the front page of Wikipedia in their things that happened on this day section.
