Roman emperor Marcus Aurelius had to give himself “pep talks” to get himself going in the morning, with comments such as:
What do I have to complain of, if I'm going to do what I was born for — the things I was brought into the world to do? Or is this what I was created for? To huddle under the blankets and stay warm?'
I'm more an early bird kind; and I prefer this part:
So you were born to feel 'nice'? Instead of doing things and experiencing them? Don't you see the plants, the birds, the ants and spiders and bees going about their individual tasks, putting the world in order, as best they can? And you're not willing to do your job as a human being? Why aren't you running to do what your nature demands?
However does it imply that you have to be an night owl? I often go to bed around 8.30 PM ::)Napoleon and Margaret Thatcher are known as short sleepersSix for a man, seven for a woman, eight for a fool
“Eight for a fool”…? I have heard some varying reports about how much sleep one should get, and they seem partially contradictory. I suppose the true answer is that the magic sleep number differs from person to person. The way I determine my sleep time is by how tired I feel based on the number of hours I have been getting at night. I prefer eight, but I can actually do seven to eight and probably feel alright.
Eight and an half of sleep per night is what the Nasa schedules for space-travelling astronauts. However, a study by Harvard Medical School has found many astronauts suffer serious levels of sleep deprivation that could be putting their lives in danger. In space no-one can hear you snore
I usually get between 5-6 hours of sleep per night. If I get more I usually don't feel right the next day. Incidentally, it drives my wife crazy that I sleep so little.
