Well, he's not a robot since he was able to write in “Qin Dinesty [sic]” as his historical period of choice. However, I did a search for his name and I see that he kind of pasted the same message around on other forums and stuff. Maybe it's just that I'm so used to dealing with robot spammers that when human spammers come around I breath a sigh of relief. 🙂
I only give a person a chance if they don't have a link to some music download site or porn site. If the site is quasi normal, then I'll be lenient. If they post an ICQ account number, then they are immediately expunged. I have a couple newcomers at NJO who don't have a website or ICQ number, but they didn't post anything. I haven't deleted them yet because I just don't know if they joined the site arbitrarily just to read with a future possibility of posting, or they are spammers who just want access to email info. They might be from other forums NJO members frequent who link back to the site in their siglines and they just followed the links.
Well I removed the link from the guy here in his post. Copying and pasting the same text around the internet, linking back to one's site, and doing it all for commercial reasons suggest that it's the equivalent of spam, even if it relates to a degree with this forum in general. I agree about the ICQ field and the nature of links. SMF has some pretty darn good ways to keep robot spammers from posting; once I posted them I don't think I've had a single robot spammer sign up or post - even in areas where guests can post. I don't know if the same can be implemented for phpbb.
It still shocks me that this goes on. I mean don't these people who do this understand that all they do is irritate people and make them mad? Who goes to a history site to find Porn? American history forums has been overrun. I went to a civilwarforum the other day. It was a small one but it had been blasted with porn spammers. it said they had one hundred members and about four posts, I found one post relating to the civil war all the rest was spam. I just don't get these people.
