I just got a 100 on my first exam!!! So much for learning anxiety. What a good confidence booster and good way to start.I'll admit, it wasn't really that difficult, but I was nervous about it.He hasn't graded my first essay yet though. I'll know this weekend.

I don't think you would classify it as a real essay, Donnie. It was very short (one paragraph) and simple. I think the prof. just called it an essay for lack of a better term. Basically it was just "what are your goals and barriers for learning". BUT, per his directions, I did not use "I think" or "in my opinion". I kept it third person. So far, I was one of only two students who did that. 8)(And, besides, I'll need your opinions when I do the other, real essays...like when I start taking the history and terrorism courses ;D)
Congratulations. It's a good feeling to get over that first hurdle. I take it the class is the “introduction to online learning” that you had spoken of previously, right?
Yes, that's the one. Not as boring as I though it would be. (but a good “attitude check' to see what it's like taking an uninteresting class) Kind of wish I took another another course with it. In August I'm taking 2, math and writing….maybe adding a third 1/2 way thru (sp?)…like history. That would be fun, because I'm quite sure I'd have you guys to discuss things.
Phid, Donnie and everyone. I hope you don't mind I do this. Just tell me if it's not appropriate on this board.I have a couple of questions about general writing (and one spelling question)When writing an essay with multiple paragraphs, is it SOP to put a space between paragraphs?Which one's correct:"gain confidence through knowledge"or"gain confidence thru knowledge"
Which one's correct:"gain confidence through knowledge"or"gain confidence thru knowledge"
Is that a joke, BOY? No really...the word is "through", not "thru".

Answer: depends how much you're trying to stretch you paper...you know, change the font on that baby to Courier 13 point, 1.5" margins, etc etc and you've turned a 7 page paper into a 10-pager, right? 😉Actually, I wouldn't put spaces in between paragraphs. I think your standard paper will have no spaces between paragraphs, but will be double spaced...12 pt. Times new Roman (perhaps a similar standard font will do, like Ariel).
No spaces between paragraphs. If you cite a long quote (over four lines), then you must indent another tab space for the entire block quote….this means one more tab space than your usual indentation for starting new paragraphs….so two tab spaces altogether. Your first line of your long quotations should be the same as the subsequent lines. 😉
