Engineers have succeeded in bringing the Leaning Tower of Pisa off its path to destruction by falling over:Leaning Tower of Pisa is saved from collapseI recall seeing the tower in 1995 when they had the weights stacked on the base on the side opposite its lean. The buildings are beautiful - the church, the campanile (tower), and the baptistry, which are all on the same grounds. I'd like to actually go inside the tower at some point. I think it was closed off to the public last I visited, but from the sounds of the story visitors are now let in.
