I am called the Prince of Mathematicians. I was born in Germany in 1777. I entered college at the age of 15. I gave the first proof of the theorem of algebra in my doctoral thesis.
You are Skiguy making up facts about yourself? Oh, you mean who are you pretending to be? I get it. ;D 😉 Without looking, I'm not sure about the answer. Work would have likely peaked ~1815 - 1825. Too late of a time period for me to even guess some names. I have been studying Europe during this time period (though in a different discipline) and I still cannot think of anybody.
Well, it was a tough question. I'm guessing Ski is reading about this gent in one of his classes….Ski, could you tell us a short blub about Gauss? I no nothing about the man, although I do recognize his name as being the root for other words.
Pretty much the facts I gave are about all I know. It was a little sidebar in my math book. He “invented” algebraic formulas (I'm guessing he proved quadratic equations) therefore I do not like him. 😀 He also made contributions to astronomy and physics as well as the electronic telegraph.(circa 1830)
His name reminds me what the Navy calls degaussing (has something to do with nullifying magnetism, which interferes with compasses, et cetera) in metal ships of war. But today's GPS technology probably negates the need for degaussing vesskes today.
