Through Melissa's Medieval History Blog I found an article on this:Ancient secrets emerge from graveHere's a little blub:The bones of six bishops buried more than 600 years ago have been identified using new hi-tech methods. And some of the people actually ID'd mentioned:Radiocarbon dating helped identify the graves of bishops Walter (died 1235), Henry (d. 1293), Michael (d. 1359) and Thomas (d. 1362).Interesting, of course, is how exactly radiocarbon dating can lead archaeologists/anthropologists to the names of the bishops. I'm guessing that this would only be possible when we have corresponding records which mention these people. If not for those records, the science would tell us limited, though useful information, such as approximate dates, and as the article mentions, the kind of diet they had. Part of what I find neat about history is the use of science with traditional researching which can produce a much better picture of what life was like and how people lived in previous ages. Nowadays we might know more about history than even those who lived at times closer to when events took place. Interesting, isn't it?
