A short write up I did… thoughts?http://hubpages.com/_njb1966/hub/Was-Andrew-Jackson-the-President-of-the-People
Jackson was an American enigma. He began the modern party system, he relocated Native Americans ruthlessly, was a war hero, and a man's man too. You either love him or you hate him…there is no in between.
I think the “man of the people” reference in any case can be well-supported by one's military heroism. People easily understand and appreciate courage under fire. Once Jackson's military feats became known by the public, the public would have a high view of him because of his valor. Politicians who make their way into the limelight merely through elected office have a harder time relating to the public.
