Macchiavelli was a pragmatist philosopher of Florentine politics. One of his ideas (from his “Art of War”) for a person to gain power is to fake his own death and scheme while he has the upper hand against his enemies. So, does anyone appreciate Macchiavelli's writings? Did he have anything useful to offer?
I think The Prince has a lot to offer when it comes to governance. He says a prince's behavior should be tempered by humanity and prudence so that overconfidence does not make him rash or excessive distrust make him unbearable. He also writes “fear is strengthened by dread of punishment”And Macchiavelli was in almost every way a realist when it comes to international relations.
My first post having joined a short time ago.I like Machaivelli's realism. Interesting, the Folio Society edition of The Prince has an introduction by Benito Mussolini.

I like your website Don. I might "steal" some of your web graphic themes for my sites. (Not your actual graphics mind you, but something similar I will make on my own). 🙂 Oh by the way, welcome to WCF!

An interesting book was published decades ago titled "Machiavelli and Management" -- instead of ducal lords, one serve multi-national corporations.
Is that the book which discusses what modern-day managers can learn from Machiavelli? Although I thought this book I'm referring to was published within the last ten years or so.
