Has anyone seen this? I saw it the 3D version last Friday with my son and wife and it is great. The story leaves a little bit to be desired but the special effects and 3D were outstanding. It was worth seeing just for the effects and the 3D looked better than any other 3D I have seen. If you are a technical effects in film geek, this is a must see. ;D
I have not seen the movie but would like to. From the trailers, though, the animated characters on the planet look a little “cartoony”, especially compared with the human actors they show who are in the ship in the movie. I do have a question – does it look better in 3D? Is there a big benefit to watching the 3D version of the movie? I generally think it would feel a bit odd wearing glasses throughout the whole movie and I don't think it would bother me to see just the regular version, but I'd like to get your opinion on it.
However some are critical about the message in this movie: "It's a moral dilemma that he will have to face."
That doesn't seem to be the movie's "message" though, does it? That line was just referring to one of the choices a character in the movie has to face, seems to me...

I'd better go to see that movie ... 😉 (any "oops" icon ?)
The story has kind of a message about evil, greedy capitalists exploiting the natives. My wife said it is like a western with blue indians and I have to agree. The story is fairly shallow but the effects are awesome. The glasses I had were not the most comfortable but the effects were worth the mild discomfort. I cant imagine it would be worth seeing in 2D, the effects would not be nearly as impressive in 2D I think. You can take the glasses off and the picture is still viewable and not all distorted like traditional 3D.
The fictional moon Pandora depicted in the movie Avatar by James Cameron contains some similarities with the Noon Universe series. Boris Strugatsky rejected accusations of plagiarism, despite the similarities. Noon: 22nd Century (Russian: Полдень. XXII век) is a 1961 science fiction book by Arkady and Boris Strugatsky.

That pretty muck sums it up, doesn't it? I finally saw the movie last night for the first time. A cross between Eco-worship and Native American spirituality. It did have some cooleffects and the storyline had it's conceptual moments but it did get kind of pc/sappy. I was trying to think of a sci fi movie that I really enoyed recently, and I couldn't think of any that were produced within the last few years. Gattaca and the first Matrix are still some of the best recent ones, and they're both around ten years old.
