Here is a pretty cool phenomenon. I have started to post reviews of all the books I read on my blog. Lately some of the authors of those books have posted comments on those reviews. It has happened twice so far. The first time was Tom Kratman commenting on my review of his book Countdown: The Liberators and then yesterday Robert Citino commented about my review of his book The German Way of War. I think it is cool that my blog ranks high enough in searches that the authors find my reviews; I think it is even cooler that the authors think it is worthwhile enough to take the time to acknowledge the review and comment on it.
That is neat. I guess you are at a level in your field where the other professionals respect your opinion enough to respond to your comments. I hadn't thought of it, but blogging book reviews is probably a good way to network and get to know other respected people in your field.

I hadn't thought of it that way either. I basically put them up to get my opinion out there. I am constantly reading and a new review goes up on average once a week. I read to the point that it irritates my wife that I would rather read than watch TV. I don't always praise books in my reviews and I have posted a couple of reviews on Amazon that I have gotten beat up about in the comments for not writing a positive review. Not every book is great but most have at least some redeeming qualities. i guess the networking piece is good but secondary. i mainly just hope that someone will get something out of reading my reviews.
