This story just came out today:Wyoming to publish Buffalo Bill papersThe article has some information on Buffalo Bill, someone who I don't know too much about. Interesting to hear that he was really a "celebrity" in the U.S. and even in Europe during his day since he apparently spent much of his time in Wyoming, a state where you'd think publicity wouldn't follow you. Was his popularity due to the fascination of the Wild West and the tales of adventure that were likely contained in popular books and articles of the day?
Cody was a very famous man even before his show. It was because of his fame he decided to make a go of show business. It started with plays where he would play himself (and some say he was a very good actor as well) and eventually evolved into the wild west show that he ran for many years touring both north america and europe (Sitting Bull was with him on his europeon tour).
