What are some of your favorite symphonies, composers, or periods? My top 3 are Beethoven's Ninth, Mahler's 1st Symphony, and Rachmaninov Piano Concerto #2. I usually like what I call "heavy classical," it's gotta kick some major butt! You wouldn't think a piano concerto can do that, but there's some serious hardcore music in that Rachmaninov. The 2nd movement of Mahler's 1st is probably my favorite. The German title is "Mit vollen Segeln" which means "Under Full Sail" (and as one who is seriously considering buying a sailboat, I've been really liking this lately)Listen to a very well done performance here.
I am partial to music from before the mid-eighteenth century, so my favorite composers are from that time. Some of my favorites include Praetorius and Monteverdi, and a bit later I enjoy Marin Marais, J.S. Bach and Handel. Of more recent composers, I like different works here and there. Rimsky-Korsakov's “Scheherazade”, Ravel's “Bolero”, Strauss waltzes, to name a few.Seems like there are frequently concerts of 19th century composers so you are in luck if you ever wanted to go to one. When I've looked in the past for baroque concerts, it seems like they don't have all that many of them.
Tchaikovsky and Wagner mostly although I do listen to some Mozart on occasion. I am still trying to get tickets for the Bayreuther Festspiel they do every year where they put on Wagner's Ring of the Nibelungen. It usually sells out super quick though.
My n1 favorite piece is from my n1 favorite composer Rachmaninoff-piano concert n2,especially the beginning.I always imagine Ivan Aivazovzki's paiting “Deveti val''.I also pretty much like Vivaldi Season's and Stavrinsky works.Chopin nocturnes it's teleporting me to Nirvana :P.Also Traviata'even though it's opera, and Schuman's Genoveva.Tchaikovsky 1812 prelude op 49 .Debussy,Dvorack and tons of others 😛P.S Rossini's William Tell-THE RYTHM IS AWESOME !????
