I just saw the list of college football bowl games. Each year it seems more and more underwhelming.http://espn.go.com/college-football/bowlsThe first problem is with the names. It's hard to accept the commercialization of the names. It was bad enough when company names were attached to the name of the bowl itself, but now the company name has become the bowl name. "Taxslayer.com Gator Bowl". "Godaddy Bowl". And what the heck is the "AdvoCare V100 Bowl"????Second problem is with the pairings. I'm guessing many of the pairings are due to individual conference standings, but this makes for kind of matches which aren't of the highest caliber. LSU vs. Iowa? Nebraska vs. Georgia? Seems to me they could have done better. Third problem is the sheer quantity of bowl games. According to my quick estimation, there are about 35 that will be played. Only about half a dozen or so will be compelling. Don't they know that a bowl is only worth something if it's not so commonplace that a mediocre team can win it?After an exciting college football season, it's a bit of a letdown to see its culmination.
The BCS Championship game on right now is the only one I am most interested in. Funny how Auburn is currently up by about three scores. This would be an upset if it holds.
I predict that it will expand to something like 8 teams in the future…maybe even as soon as 2-3 years. It seems like even getting the playoff system going was like moving a mountain, so I'm not surprised they didn't make it a bigger playoff at the get go.
