The subs sinks under uncertain circumstances, and a watch on board stops at 8:23. Sound like a TV detective show? Ok, so not really, but it does describe the sinking of the Confederate submarine, the H.L. Hunley, near South Carolina. I think part of the mystery is whether it went down all at once or slowly, and part is the fact that some people saw “a blue light signaling from the Hunley about 45 minutes after the attack on the Housatonic”. I once heard the Civil War set the benchmark for European nations' navies prior to WWI. More specifically the use of ironclads which nations like Great Britain took the idea and made the dreadnoughts.Good read thanks 🙂
