I saw a good article in the NY Post with this money line:"Hitler’s greatest mistake was being born too soon. If he were on the march now, would there be will in Washington and London to stop him? Would there be an arsenal of democracy to save mankind from darkness?"How the West was lost by the selfie presidentInteresting questions: would the free world be able to effectively stand up to Hitler if he were around and in power today?
Simple answer, doubtful.I am convinced the current generation of world leaders are even more cowardly than those of 30's Europe and with even less reason. (the current crop did not live through the horrors of WWI). We see evidence in their constant refusal to do anything about the rogue nations in the world as the Post piece rightly points out. Ironically, I think the world leader most likely to draw a line in the dirt were a new Hitler to arise somewhere would be Merkel. She reminds me very much of Thatcher.
Perhaps there is something to be said for female world leaders. It may be that they have to overcompensate for the perception that they are weak or unwilling to act. (Note: this is not an implicit endorsement of Hillary). 🙂
