I read this article, Great Expectations for Dickens theme park, where they discuss the place before it opens in England in another week or so. Half the article seems to brim with concern that it will turn into a kind of “Disneyland” – in other words, a commercialization of a literary treasure we're supposed to treat with more respect. They even took a part from the NY Times:
"There is the prospect that characters from Dickens' novels -- Mr Pecksniff and the Artful Dodger, Mr Pickwick and Uriah Heep -- will wander through Dickens World the way Goofy and Mickey walk the streets of Disneyland," the paper said.
Ha ha, I thought that was rather funny.
