I did not know some of those but have you heard of all of these? I have only heard of one or two of them namely Sequoyah and Deseret12 Proposed U.S. States That Didn't Make the Cut
It might make sense even today for certain states to break apart. Upstate NY and the city/Long Island is a good example. In that list, I find it interesting to hear about the Southern states which didn't want to break off with the Confederacy during the Civil War.
Let us not forget that West Virginia seceded from Virginia at the outbreak of the Civil War. It could thus be classified as a success.
