I only know so much of my family's history, but what I do know is that the uncle of one of my ancestors from the early 19th Century was a captain in the Prussian army that fought against Napoleon – I'm guessing either in the Battle of Jena-Auerstedt (1806) or in The War of the Sixth Coalition (1812-1813).Who here knows of a famous ancestor or two?
He's not really famous but my Great-Great-Grandfather and his brother started Branson Missouri, he was the post master their and his brother the sheriff. Now they have all the theaters and shows. a long way from post-war Missouri.
Interesting. Reuben Branson was your ancestor? That's who Wikipedia says was the postmaster in the 1880s. I had heard of Branson before but I wouldn't have known that it was so small these days….less than 7000 people.
Reuben Branson, thats right. I don't know too much of the history, my aunt did all the geneology work. His brother, I think, was killed in a shoot out some time after the town was started.
My GGGGGreat Grandfather, George V Stettler, established the first Lutheran church in Ohio in 1803. A little town called Miami Township just outside of Dayton. The lutheran church is no longer there but a church stands today and his headstone is still in the cemetery.
An ancestor on my father's side of the family was a member of the House of Burgesses and my maternal grandmother's family are descendents of the Staffords in England.
Nobody famous, just a bunch of ordinary soldiers. One fought with the Swamp Fox, One was a Capt in the militia fighting Indians in this area in early 1800's. Four served in CSA army(two wounded and one POW). One uncle was career USN and served on the USS Washington when they sunk the only battleship sunk in one on one combat in WW2.

Nobody famous but I have had ancestors serve in every war America has fought in from the French and Indian wars to the present including both sides in the Civil War. One of my Great grandfathers was a minor noble in Ireland before emigrating to America in the mid-eighteenth century just ahead of the law after engaging in piracy along the Irish coast.
