What may be the earliest image of a woman giving birth has been unearthed in Tuscany. It is actually an Etruscan work (image here) in low relief and really not that detailed. However, notable for its subject matter. There is one other Roman relief I know of of a woman giving birth, and I cannot find it at the moment – but it is a nicer work than this Etruscan one.
