ModeratorThis veteran would be on the first thing hopping to get back to the US and fight to preserve those rights I spent over twenty years defending.
It's not you veterans we worry about...or at least I don't. Most I know are on the same side. It's the cops. They are so politically connected that I think they would would willfully obey government orders and many cops would be more than happy to be gungrabbers.

ParticipantA little more on the who secession issue… the comments are amusing but I think an omen as to how Americans feel about the situation our country is in as well as each other.http://radio.foxnews.com/toddstarnes/top-stories/secession-petitioners-aint-whistling-dixie.html

Ski,There is not a police force in the country that could hope to stop an organized group of combat veterans, and I include SWAT teams here, who are the closest thing police have to combat troops. Of course, the veteran composed militia would take casualties but only until they managed to get ahold of some of the assault weapons so many police tote around in their squad cars today. At that point the fight becomes and increasingly losing proposition for the police. There is a world of difference between urban combat and urban policing. But I don't think it is anything we have to worry about. All this talk of secession is so much hot air. Things would have to be way worse than now for it to get serious. I am talking about riots in the streets and midnight knocks and disappearances serious. Then it is game on, and I am fairly certain the State Guard forces would fall in behind their governors. I am not so certain about reserve troops but they are almost exclusively Combat Support (CS) and Combat Service Support (CSS) troops anyway, not combat arms. To get an idea of how tings might go down read A State of Disobedience by Tom Kratman, the book may turn out to be prophetic, but I hope not.

ParticipantI firmly believe that 80% of Americans would bow down like sheep. They wouldn't want to tangle with the Federal government. All they want is to watch American Idol and get on Twitter with their Iphones and Ipads. Gone are the days of manly men who would do their duty to restore the Republic. Those days are long gone.
