ParticipantI will probably end up biting the bullet and voting for Newt because I just can't bring myself to vote for Romney who is a fraud and should come right out and admit he is a Democrat or at least a liberal Republican. I couldn't vote for him last time either. Liberal is liberal regardless of what party affiliation you claim. I would vote for James Webb or any of the Blue Dpg Democrats before I voted for Romney.

ParticipantA wind of change ?I came across an article about a "different" kind of presidential canditate (previously a 2008 GOP candidate, now democrat) ; interesting programme ... ???http://www.slate.com/blogs/weigel/2012/01/10/vermin_supreme_fool_king_of_the_occupiers.html

ParticipantI have to say that I am extremely disappointed in this cycle's candidates. 300 million people in America and the current Republican field is the best we can come up with. I am starting to think Obama will get re-elected after all. I wil be damned if I will vote for Romney, his conservative clone. After Cain fell out of the race I don't know who I can support anymore. Anger and disgust will be not harsh enough for how I will feel if Romney gets the nomination.

ModeratorObama will very likely get reelected, and I sure hope my prediction is wrong. :-[

ParticipantObama will be reelected if enough conservatives shoot themselves in the foot and forget about Supreme and Federal Court appointments.OMG, can you imagine the damage Obama can do during the lame duck period if he does lose and what kind of a Carteresque ex-President he will be?

ParticipantMy question is: What is the essential political difference except for party affiliation between Romney and Obama? The only difference I can see is the degree to the left each person is. Obama is slightly farther left than Romney. I don't for the life of me understand how he can be winning primaries unless most Republicans/Conservatives don't really care about the words they are saying and only see Romney as “electable”. Almost a manifestation of the “anyone but Obama” attitude. If what we get prolongs Obama's policies and I have seen nothing that says Romney won's, then what is the essential difference?I almost say let Obama be re-elected and bring on the constitutional crisis. Heck, if it came down to another Civil War, I know who I think would win and it certainly would not be the left/liberal/progressives. Those types are two busy demonstrating against the rich, for death row inmates, and the right to kill babies. Let's not forget that a strong strain of pacifism runs through the modern left as well. Lastly, the majority of military veterans are conservative. I would say vast majority but I can't prove those numbers. I will take a gray haired vet that can shoot, move, and communicate over a dope smoking college student every day of the week and twice on Sundays. This election is cementing my disgust with the current two-party system. I may even vote for Ron Paul, that whacko would at least upset the apple cart and get people talking about something other than how to fleece the productive sector of society to pay for the unproductive.

ModeratorRomney can be more easily influenced and manipulated by a GOP controlled Congress than Obama can. Unfortunately, he can be just as easily manipulated by a Dem Congress. At the very least we all better hope the Repubs can win the Senate and keep the House. From the looks of things, that will be a battle as well.

KeymasterI think if we start from the premise that voters are able to elect a candidate who will service all their ideals, then they will be disappointed 98% of the time. For me, national politics is kind of like going to the casino. You can play all your chips on one hand, but you'll end up losing everything most of the time. Yes, you can do this in practice rounds (e.g. primaries) but when it comes to actually betting money (e.g. national election), you need to hedge your bets and hope to walk away with at least some money. Perhaps one day you'll hit the big-time, but most of the time you win in increments. While Romney is not my top choice, I do not consider him to be part-and-parcel of the political group now occupying the White House. I think there are far too many nuanced ramifications that come with a new person entering the presidency, so any change from what we currently have will lead to widespread ideological changes across the board.

ParticipantI am not looking for a candidate that agrees with me on everything, that person likely does not exist and could not get elected if hey did. I am looking for a candidate that agrees with my top 4 most important issues. Those are, in order of importance, national security, the size of government, the intrusiveness of government, and MY version of constitutional originalism. AT this point I would settle for even someone who agrees with 2 of them. That person right now is either Santorum or Gingrich, I have not decided which. What I see are a bunch of empty suits parroting focus group talking points a-la Bill Clinton. If it polls well it mus be good. I imagine blood sports polled well in Imperial Rome, that does not mean hey were a good thing. The Christians certainly did not think so.Ski, I don't want a President that can be influenced, he is supposed to be the leader not the follower. I too hope that the Republicans at least take control of congress. At least then they can maybe put a stop to the worst of the madness. Obama has continued the Bush originated practice of government by executive dictat though so I am not sure how much Congress can do. I am increasingly reminded of the political ituation in 1850's Prussia and Bismarck's solution to a recalcitrant Reichstag. I don't think it is too far-fetched to imagine something like happening in the US.

No, I don't think it is at all. Too bad we all didn't think like this. The only major changes someone could make would be if a "radical" Tea Party REAL Conservative became President. That's the only thing, IMO, that could stop the Left turn this country is going in. Someone like Romney might slow it down a bit, but it will still go in a downward spiral. I am becoming increasingly cynical and discouraged everyday.

How is Romney going to slow it down? He is almost as far left as the Democrats even though everyone seems to be ignoring that. Let us not forget that it was the Massachusetts health care law HE signed that was used as a model when they wrote Obamacare. Why is nobody clamoring that fact? All I have heard come out of Obamacare is mountains of new Health Regs and descriptions of how premiums are going up everywhere. I though Obamacare was supposed to stop all that or are you going to tell me Pelosi, Obama, and Reed lied to us?Health care alone will stop me from voting Romney. I don;t see how I can expect somebody that signed it into law once to sign it's big brother's repeal.Look up RINO, Romney's picture is right there next o McCain, and Olympia Snowe, and Arlen Specter before he came out of the RINO closet.

ParticipantAs Morth Sahl said when Nixon ran vs. McGovern, the choice is usually between the lesser of two evils or among the evil of two lessers.
