“You can go back 500 years. You cannot find a more audacious plan. Never knowing for certain. We never had more than a 48 percent probability that he was there,” Biden said at a fundraiser in Morris Township, N.J.
If you're thinking what I'm thinking, you're thinking "really??". Nothing more "audacious" has occurred over the past five centuries?? Just so we're clear, here are some meanings of audacious:
1.extremely bold or daring; recklessly brave; fearless: an audacious explorer.2.extremely original; without restriction to prior ideas; highly inventive: an audacious vision of the city's bright future.3.recklessly bold in defiance of convention, propriety, law, or the like; insolent; brazen.4.lively; unrestrained; uninhibited: an audacious interpretation of her role.
While acknowledging the boldness and daring of the Seals who went into the raid, I'm not so sure it was as "extremely bold or daring" at the highest levels of decision-making as some other past events have been. Even just in the sixteenth century, we can find a few which must have measured up to these: the Viennese at the Siege of Vienna of 1529, the Battle of Lepanto, 1571, the launch of and defense against the Spanish Armada, 1588. Each of these involved forces of one side going up against a superior force, which must have entailed a high level of "audacity". Each of these events also helped to shape the history of Europe in a major way.
I saw that too and immediately thought of: The storming of Mobile Bay, “damn the torpedoes”, D-Day, Iwo Jima, Guadalcanal, San Juan Hill, LZ X-ray, The Assault on Trenton, Crossing the Delaware, The glorious First of June, The Battle of the Nile, Trafalgar, Operation Typhoon in 1941, Pearl Harbor, Napoleon at Arcola 1796, and the list could continue. I thought I had heard everything in the way of political hot air politicians, but especially Biden could spew. I guess I was wrong. My second was what an idiot Biden is. The sad part is they got a majority of Americans to vote for this clown 3 years ago.
So many wars filled with countless “audacious” raids that succeeded. Three come quickly to mind: Entebbe, rescue of POWs in the Philippines during WWII, and Skorzeny snatching Mussolini. One could write a thick book.
