German weapons were very good–the MG 34 and the MG42 had no peers and our own M60 is a rip of of them much as the 1903 Springfield mirrored the Mauser design–although the lines were more pleasing to they eye–viz.  “Here to Eternity”–a paean to the Springfield and in my opinion the best novel about theUS army that has ever been written.  Private Robert E. Lee Pruit was a man of little education and great character. We, on the other had–had the Garand–again–without peer in WWII (IMHO)
