Well, don't click on any of the links that are posted in such a message. You can look at the message, and I don't think that responding would be bad per se….but it's like responding to a manequin on the sidewalk set up by con artists who are working the rest of the people in the crowd.Looks like the spammers keep coming. I'm still banning accounts.
Better find a “humanizer” mod like I have at NJO. It stopped all the stupid bots from signing up. I've noticed that the MSM, Google, and Yahoo spiders have been crawling your site heavily here lately. You must have reached a critical mass of content or something. Christian Legacies doesn't get that much spider traffic yet.
I think what Donnie is referring to is CAPTCHA – a code that you have to enter to prevent robots from signing up. Actually, I thought I was the one who let Donnie know about that a while back, but maybe he already knew on his own. I had CAPTCHA installed when my forum was using phpbb. I like to make it as easy as possible to let people sign up, and only when spammers catch on will I make it more difficult. Today I changed the registration format to self-authorization so that anyone who signs up has to click on a link within an e-mail that is sent to them before they can post. So far today it seems to have quieted things down a bit.And Stumpfoot, if you know of any others who are interested in history, please let them know that we would value additional input here. I recently noticed that the number of links from this site in Google doubled to over 1000, which means things are picking up on that end - hopefully for the better.
I think I will add a board entitled soemthing like “Europe in the Modern Age”. This would cover Europe from 1900 to basically the present day, except it would not cover WWI or WII (or the Cold War). Also, I will need to add something covering America after the Late 19th Century until the "Roaring Twenties". This will probably be an "Early Twentieth Century" board....great for all of the Teddy Roosevelt fans here!

Rejoice! The tide is turning in the Spammer Wars! I installed a CAPTCHA feature a couple of weeks ago, and since then the number of spammers signing up on this forum has dropped dramatically. Not only that, but I continue to monitor when spammers with banned IP addresses or e-mail addresses try to sign up. I have noticed that this has been trickling down quite a bit lately. Now, a few days are skipped between tries. I think this just might be a positive sign that we are winning....then again, perhaps it's a trick to let our guard down 😀 . What would Sun Tzu say in a situation like this?
