Just read this news article about how a couple of Fra Angelicos were found in a bedroom after the home owner died and was having some of her belongings appraised. Fra AngelicoFra Angelico[/wiki] was a major painter in Florence during the Renaissance:
They were commissioned by Florentine ruler Cosimo de' Medici and his brother Lorenzo, major Renaissance art patrons, in the late 1430s for the high altar at the Church and Convent of San Marco in Florence, where Fra Angelico, a Dominican monk, lived.
The find seems to be quite amazing and I wonder about the condition the paintings are in, and whether Italy will challenge the ownership of such paintings if they may have left the country illegally. If you ever visit Florence, you can see a large Fra Angelico fresco of the Annunciation at the San Marco monastery.
