I see that WCF has pretty much gone dormant here since Christian Legacies was invaded by the atheists. I reckon this board has become an unintended casualty. And for what? Ken is correct when he says CL has been defiled and ruined. So basically two boards have suffered equally unwanted fates. Can Christian Legacies be saved? Can WCF be resurrected? How do we go about doing it? Should I shut CL down and rebuild it from scratch? Or has the experiment in a Christian forum proven fruitless? Did I fail as the administrator there? Was I firm enough? Not firm enough? I'm like Ken, I feel held hostage on my own message board. How ridiculous is that? Whoever heard the like? But it's the truth. I have no answers. :-
If you mean that CL is “defiled and ruined” is it because it's not more Scripture study-oriented? Because now it's become more believer-non believer debates? If this is the case it's really only a problem of marketing your forum to the correct audience. I think when people see “Christian forum” in general they may just think it's a general discussion forum, rather than a focused discussion area for specific things. But you need to start somewhere; it's easier to focus discussions on particular topics when you have members posting than if you didn't have any members to begin with.As for WCF, I'm really not sure why we haven't been getting more people signed up. I would think that even at random we'd get more people signing up. I do realize that as it gets easier to install forums on the internet they tend to saturate people's interest in them. However, I think that we've got some interesting historical discussions going on here, and I try to keep things rather current by commenting on recent news articles that deal with history. I'm still trying to see if I can command some authority over at AHF and perhaps direct those people to this forum as the other one is still being ruled by spammers.
Do you have to shut it down? Just let it die out and they'll eventually leave (hopefully). Lao and greenie are on NJO and there's a religion section there,so if they feel the need to attack God and insult Christians let them do it there. It seems Phid has disengaged from CL too. Maybe we all should. Let's get this board going. Phid deserves it and WC deserves it (and I'm taking Western Civ soon ;D Maybe I can get some fellow students to join..I'll just have to see if it's OK I “advertise” a site there)
Oh, I didn't mean to give the impression that I have “abandoned” CL. I haven't posted there in the past few days as it seems the same threads are being discussed which I don't really want to join in middle stream. I also hesitate to go after Vandy again as I really don't like long, drawn-out arguments which end up being tit-for-tat. Maybe I'll have to start a new thread on something over there some time soon.
Well, don't expect me to join in. I kind of..um..deleted my account. Explanation was left, though. I'm sick of the arguing and feelings of anger it gave me. Selfish? Perhaps. But I have better things to do than argue with atheists on a daily basis.
We need to plan a restoration of both of these boards. I mean a serious attempt at getting them both going in the direction we really want and having them live up to their fullest potential.

As I told ski in a PM, I'm close to throwing in the towel too. I knew going in that CL was a bit more devout than I am but do relish good discussions with folks that are tolerant of other perspectives… as most posters seemed to be for awhile. As I read more I found each side (devout and devoid) getting beyond what I consider proper conduct; far too easy to be nasty on the net, as for the most part we are anonymous. [T]hat does seem to be getting better but still more snippyness than subst[a]nce in too many of the posts, IMHO.I'd like to see CL continue but I doubt I can contribute much as I'm in neither of the two camps believing as I do that it's like flying... not the airline that matters; the safe arrival at one's ultimate destination that matters.Just my $0.02.Cheers,Wally

I apologize for anything bad you've experienced over there. I think I tried to be overly fair and in the end just lost control of the board altogether. I'd ask you to mod over there Wally if I thought you would want to, but you would most likely grow weary of babysitting. Can't blame you there either. Sad situation it is.

Didnt they say it would be a smoking ruin in a month? Dont let it happen. If you shut down they'll throw a party…they win. I would just ignore the threads they thrive on. Talk about the subject matter that you intended for the board in the first place and ignore them unless they want to contribute to the subject. If they start with the athiest stuff…ignore them. Dont let them ruin your board.

I don't plan on shutting it down now. I plan to clamp down on trolling and protect free speech, while at the same time, not allowing any religion or God Himself to be mocked in any unacceptable way. Questioning God is fine, but some of the things said were out of line, and I let it get out of hand trying not to be too tyrannical. There's a learning curve involved here, and I'm a slow learner I guess. 🙂
