ParticipantThat's hallowed ground as far as I'm concerned.

ParticipantIt was October, 2006 and the fall colors were awsome. I agree Donald. I think I mentioned this in another thread but the bus loads of kids they brought out were so disrespecful, yelling at each other running around climbing on the cannons and memorials, it drove me nuts. Has anyone else here been to Gettysburg? If not, it is one of the must visit places in this country as far as I'm concerned. I would love to go back, kids or no kids.

ParticipantI vow I will visit Gettysburg before I die. It's a pilgrimage I have to make. I also need to visit Israel before I die too. I'm terrified of airplanes so that's going to be difficult, but someday I will do it.

ParticipantThe soul of a nation was bled for on Little Round Top. It's the very least I can do for those who struggled so valiantly…to make sure their legacy is not forgotten.

ParticipantI will be visiting there later this summer. Of all the battlefields in the States the two I have mosted wanted to visit were Shiloh and Gettysburg. I went to Shiloh last year and I am relly looking forward to going to Gettysburg. I am very curious to examine the terrain at Little Round Top and the Devil's Den.

ModeratorStumpfoot, those pictures are awesome! The pics of the statues and monuments came out great. What's that one called with the soldier carrying the other guy and where is it located in Gettysburg?

ParticipantThe first one If I remember correctly is the Misssissippi monument (each state involved in the battle has one) its on the Confederate lines (west I think?) I think they now refer to it as Confederate avenue. The second is a monument at the base of Lee and Traveler (Lee's Monument is the second biggest in the park next to the Pennsylvania monument). It's close to the Miss. Monument. I cant remember what it represented though.

I have been to Gettysburg 3 times...it's in my home state, about a 3 or so hour drive. I know what you mean about the kids...they need shock collars like dogs >:(My sis is moving to Gettysburg this summer, so I plan to spend more time with her and to visit the Battlefield.Great time of year to be in PA stumpfoot...Fall is the best season here.Town's best kept secret for lunch (not a tourist trap) - Ernie's Texas Lunch on RT30/Cashtown Road. Little Round Top to me is like going to the Vatican for others.

ParticipantI know it wasnt the right time of year to experiance the summer the way the soldiers did, but I agree fall was a great time to visit. But fall is a great time to visit anywhere on the east coast.
