Aetheling
ParticipantEarlier this day I tried to log in WCV, however I was redericted to Wikipedia's page: Historical Method. I wonder if the site was hacked or if I was simply banned ? It was'nt just an accident or technical failure, I 've checked it.What's happening ?

KeymasterFirst, you momentarily scare me when you make a post with the subject “Hackers” 😮Second, Scout has had that exact same problem in the past. I have tried looking into it and cannot figure out why this has been happening. I believe he started having the problem from time to time at least a year ago. Keep me posted as to how often this happens for you.

ParticipantThis started happening to me after I moved to Europe. I think it has something to with the way the server recognizes my IP. OR Wikipedia is full of evil hackers and are trying to keep me away from WCF.

ParticipantDidn't one of you guys do a “special posting” about Charlemage on Wikipedia a while back? Could it be a case of “wiki-revenge?”

That was me a long time ago(over 1 1/2 years). It's possible I guess, though I have been banned from posting to wikipedia by IP Address cause I kept doing it and then had the gall to get into an argument with an adminsitrator over a case of obvious bias in their article on slavery. I had not considered that angle though. >:(But that still leaves Aeth unless he too is a wikipedia vandal like me? ???

ParticipantProblems can be caused by cookies that malfunction. Try clearing your cache and always reboot the computer.

ParticipantWe think it has to do with IP ranges that are very close or within the range listed on the ban list here. If someone does not have a static IP, it may change from time to time and fall within that range. When this happens, the software simply thinks you are a spammer and redirects you to wherever Phid specifies.

ParticipantYour right about how a dynamic IP address can be the source of such problems. I was going on the assumption that when Aetheling was using a different computer it was connected to the same router and so would have the same IP address. (An assumption I probably shouldn't have made.) Anyway that's what caused me to suspect (defective) cookies–which I've also seen create login problems.
