Wow, seriously? That's a solid amount of visitors. You are good at putting book reviews and other posts on your blog on a regular basis. I have thought about doing a personal blog in the past, but I realized that I would invariably want to turn it into my opinions on a disparate collection of issues – from politics to sports to history to art and architecture….and I'm not sure it would be a very popular site.
I put personal opinions up, especially when it comes to US engagement overseas. I am also careful to back my opinions up with historical examples.Ski, I don't think my site is very academic. I try to keep it fact based but academic it is not. Thanks for the compliment though. ;D
You use citations and maps & diagrams. I like that. I'll probably try to do the same on mine (and without plagiarizing you). All I want is to be coherent and accurate. This British history is crazy and complicated though (I never read 3 books at the same time until now), so at least I hope I can be coherent!
As time goes by I have started trying to include more links than proper citations. I only put in citations now when I cannot find a good link to what I am trying to cite.
My two cents for Ski – if it's too academic in a blog setting, it might not read all that well. It's usually easier to read semi-colloquial comments, but outside of that charts, diagrams, etc. are very much appreciated (especially if you make these charts yourself). I think if you let your personality shine through (e.g. the things you find amazing about the history you're covering, the “stupid” decisions made by figures, etc.) it will be a compelling read.
