We finally got past the electrical and plumbing inspections and have moved on to insulation and drywall....fun. I will see what I can do about pics. So hows everybodys summer going?
Good to hear your house is progressing. Best time to do it in summer, isn't it? At least you'll have a roof and four walls around you come Fall. How long until you're able to move in?
All,I have finally arrived in Germany and we are currently camped out at my in-laws while we look for a house to buy. I am rapidly discovering that money does not go near as far now as three years ago. It is looking as though a house on 1/4 acre is going to run about $200,000, about twice what I would have paid in Texas. That being said, I am only a few hours drive from all the battlefields that I am interested in so I look forward to lots of travel in the coming years. I should also be able to get back on the forum more regularly now that I have reestablished contact with the electronic world.Patrick
scout, where in Germany are you located? I apologize if you've already stated this info but I haven't found it, yet…my cousins live in Salzgitter-Ringelheim and my grandfather was born in Beinum…nancy
I'm hoping end of September. We are actually camping out at the place and sleeping under the stars...kinda cool.
Must be a nice feeling. Good thing that you are building during the summer so that you can camp outside. Sounds like you're on the home stretch now.Â

Fortunately it looks like the dollar has bottomed out and is on a slight rebound. Still, it's a tough situation with the American economy right now. I hope at least you're able to get a house you really enjoy.
I am currently in the Schweinfurt area but will be stationed at Grafenwohr. I am coming to find out that the housing market in Germany is completely different than in the states and the Euro doesn't buy near as much house or land as the dollar does. We are looking at spending around 250,000 euro to get a house that would only cost about 100,000 stateside.

No, I actually got more house over here than I could have got for the same money in Texas. That is one reason I have been very sporadically on the forum lately, my wife and I have been very busy repainting and getting everything put back together. It will be at leats 3-4 more weeks before normality returns and we start to get on top of everything. It is hard to priotitize projects because so many things demand attention. My son will be happy as soon as we find and hook up the PS3, unfortunately for him, I have made it clear tha video games are not even on my list of important things.Today, I am at work, my wife is not happy as the list continues to grow.
Well Finally have my internet up and running at the house. Now no more running around to friends and neighbors begging for some internet time. Much better! As for the house its coming along I did tile for the first time, I was suprised how easy it was. Carpet in a couple weeks some interior doors and moulding and the beast will be finished. I will try and upload some pics later.

I'm glad tiling came easy for you. Make sure you seal the grout well. 😉Welcome back!
I am finally getting some good weather over here Kemnath Weather Forecast. This is the first week of good weather since last September. Good thing too because I am putting a shed into my backyard this week.
