Someone makes the case that Jack the Ripper was also a noted South African criminal:Historian claims to ID Jack the RipperThe author claims he wasn't sure whether to come forth with the assertion, but I have to wonder why. After all, we're really only going to have speculation as to JTR's identity. Without some sort of concrete proof (in which form I do not know) the mystery is confined to the realms of conspiracy theorists and the like.
I have a book, Portrait of a Killer by Patricia Cornwell ,that makes a good case for JTR being the artist Walter Sickert. Good read.
I recall another theory that he was a doctor for the royal family.
Read a book called “Mind Hunter' By John Douglas, he pioneered the profiling department for the FBI and headed it for quite a while, excellent book. In it he talks about being invited to some TV special to profile JTR and he came out with some interesting conclusions. After reading about what all they accomplished in the rest of the book I tend to trust his findings.
