A bronze lion head was recently found underwater near Riace:Archaeologists investigate sea find of gilded bronze lionThis could be important (although the lion head looks warped in the picture) because Riace is the town where the famous "Riace Warriors" (see below) were found in 1972 in relatively shallow water, and because bronze statues from antiquity are scarce. The coast of Riace was a travel route between Italy and Greece in the ancient world, so it's expected that wrecks or cargo dumps would have been made near there.
