Why are the FBI files on MLK sealed for 50 years ?I think the public has a right to know the contents of the files. It just does not seem right to me that George Washington ,Abraham Lincoln and the other great presidents have to share a holiday when a man who has sealed FBI files is honored with his own day
That's a good question. The answer to the sealing of his files lies with some reasoning within the FBI itself…probably for political purposes (I can't think of any reason why this wouldn't be the case). I do think that the fundamental MLK message is beneficial to society and unique enough that it's good to stop and consider it every year - peace among people of differing groups (racial, ethnic, etc.), as well as opposing laws which violate the common good in a peaceful, rather than violent, way. But it does seem to me that there may be a modern injection of political correctness which essentially bloats the basic message. It's one thing to say that people of different races ought to get a long peacefully and treat each other with equality and dignity; it's another thing to say that this necessarily translates into affirmative action, quotas, or the granting of entitlements or special privileges to people of particular racial/ethnic groups. So I agree with the basic message behind the day but not necessarily the way it might be used to push particular agendas.
