I did not know this – Muhammad Ali has an ancestor from Ireland dating back to the 19th century who migrated to the United States in the 1860s.
It seems that everybody has an Irishman in the family tree somewhere doesnt it? ;D
Is this a new thing or something? I don't ever remember so many blacks claiming Irish ancestry before Obama became presidemt.
Its like they are all trying to find a white guy in the woodpile huh? ;D ;D
I think it's entirely plausible…the Irish were not on the top of the social chain when they came to the U.S., just as African Americans, so there would not have been a class stigma involved. Interracial children would probably identify themselves as being more black than white, which would mean that they would tend to marry African Americans rather than Caucasians. Think about all the black people with Irish last names: Shaquille O'Neal, Eddie Murphy, Tracy McGrady of the NBA, Beyonce Knowles...so I'm not surprised.

I never thought of that.
A fellow I know, when asked if he had relatives from Georgia replied. ” Are they white? Then again, it doesn't matter….”Seems a relation was a plantation owner and was one of the white guys in the woodpile.
