In Rubio's rebuttal to the SOTU, he kept saying middle class. I think the Republicans should just lay off that class stuff and stop saying they are for prosperous middle class. They should just say they are for a prosperous American people. Plus, it wouldn't be so divisive.
I think the reasoning is that 95% of the voters are part of the middle class. So basically, it's a way of making one's message sound directly relevant, like the speaker is talking directly to your situation. The difference between the parties is that the Democrats may talk about the middle class while saying that we need to stick it to the wealthy, while Republicans do not.Honestly, I did not watch Rubio's speech. I did hear about the "big thing" of the evening, which involved a water bottle. Bread and circuses, bread and circuses.
I agree with you, but I stil think the Repubs shouldn't go that route. They are just ALWAYS on the defensive. The Left started all this class warfare garbage with the media hammering it home, and as usual the Right falls into to trap of having to use the same vocabulary. Republicans should completely ignore any class references because by addressing it, they are legitimizing what the Democrats are saying instead of correcting the falsehoods.
I agree with you that Republicans shouldn't be going on the defensive. I hate to bring it back to the media, but I do think that the way words are conveyed is one reason why this is done. A conservative politician isn't fighting on behalf of the objective nature of the world or on behalf of the family, the bedrock of civilized society; instead, he is fighting gay rights; a pro-life politician is not fighting for the lives of the unborn, but is “anti-abortion” or “against reproductive rights”. Not the only reason of course, but it is one.
It is time and past time for conservatives to go on offense, but I have been saying that for a few years now and see no reason to hope that the lack of offense will change for most conservatives. That is one reason I am so keen on the Tea Party, at least they have the spine to go on offense. Thank God for Senators Cruz and Paul, they are the only ones in the Senate willing to call a duck a duck. Sometimes I love my state.
You guys would like Bill Whittle if you haven't heard him talk before, as he goes on the offensive. He's an intelligent, conservative commentator at PJ TV. I saw a video of him giving a talk to a group of conservatives after November's election, and it was one of the best talks I've heard in recent memory. He gave the response that Romney should have given during the debate to Candy Crowley's comment that Romney had $200 or so in the back account. I can't find that exact video posted again but here's his other stuff.http://www.pjtv.com/?cmd=mpg&mpid=56
