Since the governor is involved, you'll probably see this in the news, if you haven't already:NM governor considers pardon for Billy the KidWhat is the real purpose of such a posthumous pardon? Is it some kind of politicking? PR for New Mexico? Legitimate chase for justice?
Why pardon a killer who killed at least two peace officers( In a jail break). For what purpose? Has to be political.
Maybe the image portrayed by Emilio Estevez softened their hearts? LOL
I agree there's something more here than meets the eye. And actually, I do think that having movies and legends told about him has softened the hearts of people nowadays…but we still can't forget about the crimes that were committed.
I think peoples lack of understanding of history, combined with political agendas, and publicity make this kind of nonsense news.

Richardson admitted that the news over this story has helped tourism, but from the article it looks like there is at least some substance to both sides for and against a pardon. I suppose it is neat when history is thrust to the top of present-day issues like this one has.
