Am I missing something about the story that has remained in the news for the past week or so about the couple that got into an Obama party supposedly without an invitation? This seems like a non-issue, a story that should have petered out within about 24 hours except perhaps in tabloid magazines. Is there some larger issue at play that I'm not aware of?
One – it is a pretty serious breach of security at the White House. Two - this couple is, uh, scum. They are frauds, owe tons of money, don't pay their bills, take advantage of people for "good causes", etc. Locally, they owe people thousands of dollars for support at their "charity" events. They lie, they cheat, they steal, and they need to be brought down a notch (and jail sounds like a good option to me -- not for the White House thing, but for their business dealings).
Rush Limbaugh said Obama's personality is as fabricated as Tiger Woods' golden boy image was. We've been sold a bill of goods, and like you said buyer's remorse is setting in. When Obama strays off the script, he stumbles mightily. I think everyone is now understanding that this guy is out to fundamentally change the American economy into a socialist command style one before his popularity runs out.
So far the Republicans seem to have been pretty effective at slowing him down so that everyone can become informed of what he is trying to do.
Yes, the Republicans have done a surprisingly good job at slowing him down given their numbers. I would have expected the Democrats to have a far easier time getting their policies turned in to law. The funny thing, though, is that it really took the American people to kick the Republicans into gear. I have heard the comment made that the Republicans really started challenging the health care initiative only after the town hall protests this summer. Before that, they were more or less going along with it.Will we someday look back upon those town hall protests of the summer of '09 as the "tea party" of our time? They certainly did change the course of events.
The Republicans are used to being in the minority and using procedural ploys to stop legislation. That is their big problem. When they were the majority, they still ran things like they were the minority party and often killed their own momentum whenever they tried something.
Saw piece today that o's approval rating is down to 44% and another saying that given Ben Nelson and Lieberman's objections Health Care is essentially dead in the senate.
