I am not trying to say it doesn't belong within that context just that it is impossible to have any meaningful conversation about numbers because there is so much uncertainty.  Whatever the true number is it is certain to be huge and virtually incomprehensible.  We will only ever be able to put names and faces to a very small proportion of the victims of that war.
