ParticipantWhat do you think about it? Was it a publicity stunt? Attention seeking? Or a genuine stand in what he believes?

KeymasterKind of think it was a publicity stunt. I can't say if it was meant to be self-serving, to bring greater attention to a controversial program, or to inspire people that the Republicans go to extreme measures to fight tyranny.

ParticipantMcCain and Graham scolded Rand for doing it. They said he abused the Senate rules. So the GOP isn't really behind Paul's efforts.

KeymasterYeah but in the article in the Washington Times, did you see the reaction from we the people? 1817 thumbs up, 4 thumbs down, for this comment:Hey Old Guard,Go to pasture and senescence.http://www.washingtontimes.com/blog/inside-politics/2013/mar/7/graham-mccain-blast-paul-filibuster/

KeymasterI think this helped raise his profile on a national level. Yeah, it was a risky/bold move that can easily be criticized now, but notable historical figures are filled with those who made risky/bold moves that can easily be criticized at the time.

ParticipantRand Paul is bucking the GOP establishment when he does stuff like this. If we ever wants to be on an election ticket either as VP or President, he had better get with the program (note I don't want him to join the establishment I'm just saying).

Negative but unfortunately realistic comment. Was hoping Paul would encourage and change the GOP so the RINOs will be gone.

If RINOs have not been pushed out by now, chances are they won't be in the future. Probably because the people voting for them are in part centrists/leftists. If the RINOs were to get kicked out, they may very well be replaced by Democrats so there is an overall decrease in size in the Republicans in Congress. Is this what we want? Perhaps.

ModeratorRINOs are already democrats. McCain is no better than Pelosi

KeymasterHe was one that was thinking about, although I he's probably not as bad as some. But really – would it be better for the RINOs to switch parties? I ask this as an honest intellectual question – would it be better for the Republicans to regroup into a small but highly dedicated and principled core, or to maintain varying degrees of conservative credentials so as to maximize positions of power? On one hand, the conservative message could be pure and unadulterated; on the other hand, it would mean the Republicans would be out of power on committees and large influence within the federal government.

ParticipantThe Republicans and Democrats are two arms of the same entity. In the end they both have the same goals with only minute philosophical differences. They are interchangeable parts in the larger machine. It doesn't matter who is in power, they both answer to the same lobby interests, money sources, and think tanks. I used to believe in the left-right paradigm, but now I know better. They are controlled opposition…a farce designed to fool the American public into thinking it has a choice in who governs them. At the end of the day, the Banking and Corporate interests will finance whoever is the popular flavor of the month and whoever that candidate ends up being, whether Democrat or Republican, will do their bidding. End of story.

My you are optimistic aren't you? I gave up on the GOP establishment during the 2010 midterms when they did all they could to sabotage the Tea Party. Rand Paul should stay just how he is. If he does so he at least shames the rest of the GOP by demonstrating what they should be.

I'm just trying to keep it real.

Yes, I am. Because the idiots from Brown (who voted for this clown twice) are beginning to see the light. The Tea Party Republicans will prevail....just wait and see. Rand Paul is looking like a hero even to the Left right now.
