It was a very well done movie, good acting and the war scenes were very realistic. But I wasn't really crazy about it. I know some of the history of the flag on Iwo Jima, but I don't really know if the rest of the movie was completely historically accurate. I would imagine Clint Eastwood was trying to portray the Soldiers as normal human beings, but I think he empahasized their personal failings too much, it took away the aura of Iwo Jima, and it didn't honor the Soldiers as much as I thought it should have. There were a few lines I liked, and some parts of the movie were very good. It wasn't really "Leftist", but it didn't leave me with a patriotic feeling like I thought it would. Perhaps it wasn't meant to.
Eastwood learned from Sergio Leone, who helped bring about the anti-hero in movies. Eastwood has never portrayed his charactors or directed them as anything but people who have failings, who may be right minded but dont always accomplish it.
Don't tell me — but I had heard that there was something about the troops had to raise money for the war effort around the time of Iwo Jima….I didn't really know what that meant but apparently it ties into the movie somehow. I guess I'll understand more when I see the movie.

Pretty much that's what the whole movie's about.
